The major focus of the research programme in the Laboratory of Molecular Radiobiology Biology is ‘Combined Treatment Modality in Radiation Oncology’. This programme investigates the tumour cell and tumour response to ionising radiation alone, and in combination with classic chemotherapeutical or novel pharmacological anticancer agents. The major goal is to understand radiation resistance of solid malignancies on the molecular, cellular and in vivo level, to probe novel targets as part of combined treatment modalities and to translate these into a clinical setting. The facilities/ techniques available at the site include irradiation with ionising radiation, clonogenic assays, peptide phage display screening, classic biochemical and cell biology tools, in vivo imaging, site-directed mouse irradiation. Access to the proton radiation oncology center at PSI-Villigen is also available for the preclinical research programme.
